Nicecast 1.9.5: Now With djay Support
Posted By Paul Kafasis on February 3rd, 2009
Immediately available for download is an update to our internet radio broadcaster Nicecast. Nicecast makes it a snap to create your very own internet radio station. With your radio station, users from around the world will be able to tune in and listen to any audio you’re broadcasting.
For Nicecast 1.9.5, we’ve worked with algoriddim to make Nicecast work seamlessly with their application djay. With djay, you can DJ using your iTunes Library, mixing with two interactive virtual turntables. Adding Nicecast to the mix provides a killer duo. Create live sets with ease using djay, then broadcast to the world with Nicecast.
Nicecast 1.9.5 also features several important improvements, included updates to Instant Hijack, Soundflower, the LAME MP3 encoding engine, and the included icecast streaming server. This is a free update for all licensed owners of Nicecast, so all existing users should simply click to download. If you haven’t used Nicecast before, check it out now with a free trial.

February 3rd, 2009 at 3:50 pmHi,
Not sure if this is the right place to ask these questions.
1. Do you need to to get an agreement with something like Akamai to get the data stream out to lots of people?
2. If not, about how many people can listen to a stream on a typical broadband (500kbps upload)?
Thanks

February 3rd, 2009 at 5:55 pmJohn: If you need to stream to many people, you’ll want to get an MP3 streaming server (just like you have a web server for a web site). This can be purchase from many different places.
As for how many people your connection can support, please see the How Many Listeners? page of the Nicecast manual, under the Help menu.
This sort of thing is best asked to us directly via our support section. Please email us there if you have further questions.

February 18th, 2009 at 6:42 pmI’m not having any success with Nicecast 1.9.5 on 10.4.11 with the latest updates. Anyone else having troubles? Since updating from 1.9.4, I cannot get Nicecast to connect to either System Audio or iTunes. And I have updated both Soundflower and Hijack.
(I’ve posted this as a support ticket just now also.)
