Not Shipping Software

I saw this under-reported story the other day: Microsoft announced that instead of “late 2006”, Longhorn will be available in December 2006. Which kind of goes back to the February Mark Lucovsky post which suggests that Microsoft no longer “knows how to ship software”.Which reminds me of the 1975 Fred Brooks quote: “How does a project get to be a year late? One day at a time.”For all the things that change about technology, some stay the same.
