Some of our products are on what might be called the cutting edge, and first reactions to them often involve a prediction on when we’ll get sued, and by whom. That hasn’t happened yet, and hopefully it won’t. However, recent events have caused us to contemplate an advertising campaign that’s likely to bring about a lawsuit. This, however, is one lawsuit we might not mind.
This story starts about a year ago, when we were going over our support email and email arrived from someone named Harry Shearer. I recognized the name as one of the voices on the Simpsons. Sure enough, it was the same Harry Shearer, using Audio Hijack Pro for his radio show. We thought that was neat, as we’re fans of The Simpsons, as well as the classic This Is Spinal Tap.
Fast-forward to last week, when we got a support question for Audio Hijack Pro from one Christopher Guest. Turns out this was indeed that Christopher Guest, also of Spinal Tap, among many other things. Once again, we thought this was neat and we realized we’re two for three with the members of Spinal Tap.
We Salute You!
That brings us back to that potential lawsuit. While discussing this, we briefly debated the idea of an advertising campaign. Something along the lines of:
“Audio Hijack Pro – Used by 2/3rds of the members of Spinal Tap!”
I know I’d buy a product with that sort of celebrity endorsement.
Better still, we searched our order database for Michael McKean, the missing Tap member. It doesn’t look like he’s purchased, but we do have a University of Missouri student named Mike McKean who bought Audio Hijack Pro last year. So, how about:
“Audio Hijack Pro – Used by 2/3rds of the members of Spinal Tap, and some guy with the same name as Michael McKean!”
Sure, we’d probably get sued, but that lawsuit would just be too hilarious to not make the news. As they say, any publicity is good publicity.
