Podcast Chapter Tools

Along with iTunes 4.9, Apple released a tool for creating AAC files with “chapter” artwork inside of them: Podcast Chapter Tool . There is not much to Podcast Chapter Tool, as it consists of a command line program, a document explaining the XML chapter configuration file format, and an example XML file. Basically, the minimum necessary to get the job done.

The first thing I thought upon seeing Chapter Tool, was that all of three people would use it until someone made a nice graphical interface for it. And then I thought, I could probably make a nice graphical interface for it. And finally I thought, if I just wait a couple weeks, somebody else will probably make one and save me the trouble.

And sure enough on MacUpdate today I saw it: ChapterToolMe by Romain Bossut. It’s still a bit rough around the edges, but it works. And it beats the heck out of creating Chapter configuration files by hand.

A Decade Of MP3

From The Data Compression News Blog by way of Slashdot: 10 years of MP3.

I did not know that before they settled on .mp3 as the file extension, they used .bit.

The Long Haul

A user Dave F. sent us this nifty screenshot of Audio Hijack Pro running for 84 days straight:

Audio Hijack Pro

We know of a couple setups where people run Audio Hijack Pro continuously. It inherits a lot of it’s long-run stability from bug fixes made for Nicecast.
